Catrin (2008-09-01): Do not use the tent pitch! We stayed for 2 weeks at Devon Cliffs, on their tent site along with many others. The entertainment was excellent, and the main complex, in particular the pool, made the site a good place to have a holiday. However, the tent field should be avoided at all costs. Haven cannot be held responsible for rain creating a muddy field, however cars were allowed to drive through into the areas not allocated to tents worsening the situation despite a notice telling people not to do so. We were forced to buy wellies after going through three sets of clothing in one day. Even after the rain stopped and the mud dried, the toilet shower block was disgusting. The showers were stone cold, and 'cleaning' was simply wiping the dirt around the floor so you could see swirls of mud where they had 'mopped' it! We only used these toilets in times of desperation, chosing to walk 15 minutes to the shower blocks reserved for touring caravan holidaymakers. These were lovely - the taps in the tent toilets came on far too fast and the hot tap was boiling after a few seconds. There was also a family room with a bath which we managed to use, however we had to make sure we were spotless before going in - one woman with 7 children was refused on the basis it was a family bathroom! We believe they refused her because they do not want to clean it, as there was hair all over the toilet, and mud on the floor. As for their customer service, it was practically non-existant. Athough the tent site manager did all he could to prevent cars driving through the tent field, no one was removed from the site for doing so, even after a man was run-over in his tent in another campsite nearby! We tried complaining, particularly as to get to the tent shower/toilet block you have to walk through the car park, and the 'road' that the cars had made, which I found dangerous as we and many others have small children who would not be seen stepping out between cars. However, all we received was a slip of paper with an address, and when I asked for a number, a 0845 number - and I couldn't even use their phone! We are never returning to Devon Cliffs, not even in a static caravan because of the lack of help by the customer service department. The whole experience but a black cloud over what should have been a lovely holiday. Thank goodness there are other places to visit in devon as we spent most of our time off-site to escape from it.
