Dame de D. (2009-02-15): Big and busy, crowded but thoughtfully landscaped, this site has excellent facilities, including a good cafe/bar/resto but the big attraction has to be the adjacent beach. Good sand and swimming, reasonable surf and, when the weather's right, a superb sunset - which people gather to watch and applaud! The site's near a pleasant village with an amazing food market and is central for the cycle tracks for which Re is famous.
Downside is that both the island and the site are horribly busy and excessively expensive at peak holiday times. Plus you have to get there, which involves queuing and paying to cross the dramatic bridge (and being delayed for hours if, as happens sometimes, it's blocked by an incident or accident).
