Campsite Groeneveld reviews (3):

nicola worrall (2012-06-17): I have never posted a campsite review before, but had to this time after such a bad experience. We stayed at this site for less than 24 hours - it felt so much longer, thanks to the rudeness of the owner. We are experienced family campers, pleased to be accompanied , on this occasion, by 3 very well-behaved children, who appeared to get along well with all the other international campers. The owner, however, seemed to take an instant dislike to us, and quickly began to follow us around the site, in order to check on us. At one point, she even hid behind a hedge, to watch that I emptied my rubbish into the correct bins! The new toilet was clearly very dear to her. I was told that my 9 year old daughter must not go into the toilets alone. I was given a mop and she used my arm to demonstrate how I must mop the toilet block ( I had already mopped out the shower cubicle that I had used). There is a small, pleasant bar area with table tennis, but at 9:30 promptly, she removed our glasses and told us that the children must be quiet as this is a quiet site. The children did very well, but it is not posible to get 3 children ready for bed in silence! I spoke to one other camper, who found the owner "quite a character" and quite amusing. Believe me, it is not amusing on the receiving end. I could not have stayed there a moment longer. By the time of our departure she was shouting at us. In 20 years of camping, I have never experienced anything like this. If you have children - stay away!

David Vrolijk (2010-08-16): This text means DON'T GO THERE!!!! in Dutch.

Have just returned from attending the 2009 Gent festival but had the misfortune of booking into the Camping Groeneveld site with problems starting on arrival (the owner refused to acknowledge that we had booked a 4 night stay, even though we had a copy of their e-mail confirmation). Our recommendation - stay away, there is a much more pleasant and convenient site in Gent itself (camping Blaarmeerson)

The main reason for not using this site however would be to avoid the extremely rude and obnoxious woman owner.
